In the past, people always debated weither boys or girls were smarter. In my poll, 60% said girls and 40% said boys. Charnique stated "Girls are smarter because according to studies, girls had higher test scores." Ashley and Myles agree with her but for a completely different reason. according to them "They are smatter because they are better than boys." But Rory and Mike beg to differ. They think boys are smarter for the same reason Ashley and Myles think girls are smarter "Were just better than them." In the end most people think girls are smarter than boys.

Critical Essay #1
Irony, symbolism, and exaggeration. All these are used to make a good satire, a satire is to critisize people. George Orwell uses irony, symbolism, and exaggeration to make Animal Farm an effective satire of dictators and the people who follow them.
One of the main things used to make this a good satire is irony. Snowball getting kicked out by Napoleon after he kicks Jones out of the farm. In the story in chapter 4 it tells all the animals, lead by Snowball, fought for their freedom and to make animal farm a better place. the fight was known as the battle of cowshed with the animals running the humans out of the farm. In chapter 5 page 67 it states " At this there was a terrible baying sound outside,m and nine enormous dogs wearing brass-studded collars came bounding into the barn. They dashed straight for Snowball, who only sprang from his place just in time to escape the snapping jaws...... Then he put an extra spurt and, with a few inches to spare, slipped through a hole in the hedge and was seen no more." In the end after all Snowball did, he was run out by the very pig that he always got into distputes with.
Second is Symbolism. Symbolism is used when they put up the flag to remind everyone that they gave there lives to protect the farm and there way of life. Also they have there own national anthem and they sing it on every speical ocation.
Lastly is exageration. exageration is used when the other farmers are talking about how the animals are running the farm themselves. they tell there animals that they turned canibalistic and are constantly fighting with one another.
In the end, George Ornwell used these 3 thing to make animal farm a good book
NHD 2008 Project: Malcolm X (rough draft)
Born Malcolm Little in 1926, he grew up in Langston, Michigan. His mother was half black because her mother was raped by a white man, his father was fully black. They lived in a small house that was cotinusly attacked by the KKK. His father was killed by the KKK, they ran him over with a trolly. Years later he had moved to Boston where he fell into a life of crime, he even had his own little crew that would go out into white peoples houses at night and steal their belongings. This Crew was consisted of 2 white women, his friend/barber "Shortty". One day while Shortty was fixing up his hair the cops came and arested the 4 of them, the 2 girls was sentanced to 2 years in prison becauseit was their first offence for robbery. but Shortty and Malcolm was hit with 12 accounts of 8-10 years, because they where accociated with white women. While in prison, Malcolm was thaught the true meaning to be black and about the meaning of Islam by a man named Bane, where he showed him how the dictionary is a lie, that Jesus isnt white, take everything the white man says and use it against them, how that black men where the first people, and that we dont even know who we really are, he then changed his name to Malcolm X.
After he got out he went to go see Elijah Muhamid, where he was taught everything Elijah knows. He served under him for some time, spreading the word around about the nation of Islam, how people where still enslaved in the minds and how its okay to be black because black is beautiful. At one of the religous sermans that he held, he met a woman named Betty. He went on a few Dates with her and told her what he had learned form Elijah. A few days later he was called up to help a muslim who was sent to jail after being beatten. while brother Johnson was being sent to the hospital, a mob formed up at the hospital shouting "WE WANT JUSTACE!! WE WANT JUSTACE!!!" soon after, a young man went up to him and asked if he could be a muslim. X asked the young man does he know what it means to be a muslim, the young man said no. Right before the young man was about to leave, X told him to come to the next serman on Wed at 8:00.
Days Later Elijah made X his national minster, and his assinment was to make temples all over the nation. But he warned him that some of his own brothers might get jelious and hostile. X pledged himself to Elijah even if it cost him his life. That night he proposed to Betty and she said yes right away. Malcolm X was a very intelligent man he was a man of courage and believed in God. His mission in the Nation of Islam was to minister knowledge to his people. He became one of the most high profile figures of that time. Both politically and civically. He was like a hero to the black community because he taught self help. Because of his bold and brasin was of speaking his demeanor was very cool and direct. This brought notoriaty to both him and the Nation of Islam. Malcom became a threat to both the government and the Nation of Islam.
Once he was denounced from the teachings of Elijah Muhammad he went to Saudi Arabia on what is called the Hajj. That is the pilgramage that all muslims must take before they die it is one of the five pillars of Islam. Once he arrived in Saudi Arabia he was amazed that there were muslims of all colors white brown asian people with both brown and blue eyes hair that was straight and kinky. When he saw the true meaning of Islam was to serve Allah and humanity and that people of all races were praying and eating together. He had a different aspect from the teachings he first recieved in the Nation of Islam.
At that point when he returned to the United States he was separeted from the Nation of Islam and formed a group of muslims for all people. However, he believed in helping his people first. And the black community embraced his teachings of both self help and the true meaning of Islam. The government beleived that no man should have that much power over people and then became intimidated by his outspoken words about the injustices and prejudice that was so prevelant in America at that time. His views differed from that of Martin Luther King who taught non violence. Contrary to that Malcom's teachings were the complete opposite he did not believe in turning the other cheek he was more an eye for an eye and do for self person.
He went on to make public speeches in colleges and churches and universitys where mostly both white and black people attended in large masses. He was a very intellegent and elloquent speaker whose words of truth cut like a knife to those who were oppressing people were poor and down trodden. This made way for his demise. With the Nation of Islam fearing the growing allegence and alliances of both white and black people who wanted to see an end to all the injustices that overcame America the government was also intimidated by his power and connections he had all over the world. With all these things against him he became on the top of the hit list for both the United States government as well as the Nation of Islam who felt he had become to big.
This resulted in his murder that took place at the Audobon Ballroom while speaking to an audience. Malcom X was brutally assinated in front of his wife children and a full congregation of both muslim and christians in 1965 Malcom X was killed.
Today in Harlem he has a street named after him as well as a city holiday called Malcom X Day. I was inspired by Malcom X because of his dedication for change and his fight against injustices for all people. I admired his intellegence and the fact that he was never afraid to speak his mind and speak out against all that was wrong with the world. All the injustices and racism that was never exposed he was not afraid to bring to the forefront. I respect and admire the fact that he went from being a junkie and a hoodrat a thief and a robber to becoming one of the most dedicated muslims in America. I also admire and respect the things that he fought for that makes my life easier to identify with today. Malcom X was a very special person in both the black and muslim community as well as a unspoken politican who didn't pull any punches and told things just the way they were. He believed in justice and equality for all african american people as well as people who were oppressed by the government. He was and still is very well loved honored and respected in society today. and this is why I chose him as a prominent figure in my life to study and learn from. His main idea was to be educated and do for self and that is the American way. That fact that we can speak freely and have social disscussions about injustices for all people is partly due to the teachings of Malcom X.
